ECLAC took part in the XVI Meeting of National Committees and Focal Points of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean (PHI-LAC) in Costa Rica on November 4 and 5. Additionally, it participated in the XXV Conference of Ibero-American Water Directors and Authorities (CODIA), in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, on November 7 and 8, 2024, under the framework of the Technical Dialogue on “Water Use Efficiency and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)”.

Minister of Planning and Development Pennelope Beckles-Robinson is set to chair the 30th meeting of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC), at which ministers and other high-level representatives from over 20 Caribbean member countries, along with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Jose Manuel Salazar Xirinachs, will gather to discuss the sustainable development of the subregion.

The seminar on “Water Governance”, organized by the Water and Energy Unit of the Natural Resources Division of ECLAC, presented an in-depth analysis of the current state of water resources in the region, the associated challenges, and proposals to improve water management and governance. The importance of strong governance to ensure equitable and sustainable access to water was highlighted, addressing aspects of public policy, sustainability, and gender equity.

CELADE-División de Población de CEPAL abre las inscripciones para dos talleres de Redatam, Taller 1: del 16 al 23 de abril de 2024 y Taller 2: del 7 al 14 de mayo de 2024, que se llevarán a cabo en modalidad virtual utilizando la plataforma MS Teams. Los talleres estarán enfocados en el procesamiento, análisis y mapeo de indicadores a partir de los censos de población y vivienda utilizando Redatam y QGis, ambos softwares freeware, con la finalidad de aprender sus funcionalidades y explorar las potencialidades que ofrecen los censos en la generación de indicadores para el seguimiento de la Agenda 2030 y de los ODS.
