Workshop: Capacity building to promote investments in the drinking water and sanitation sector, with a circular economy approach
The workshop, “Capacity building to promote investments in the drinking water and sanitation sector with a circular economy approach", is supported by the projects "Potable Water, Sanitation and Renewable Energies in El Salvador, Mexico and Panama" (UNPDF ) and “Transformative recovery: Overcoming the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic” (GIZ). It will take place on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Planta Tratamiento de Aguas Servidas El Trebal (Talagante).
The Workshop is organized in conjunction with the 2023 Regional Water Dialogues of Latin America and the Caribbean. The latter is a preparatory event for the 2023 UN Water Conference, where related and relevant issues for these projects will be addressed, such as: Water and Financing; Water and Health; Water, Energy and Food; in addition to Water and Sustainable Development.
The Workshop will feature brief interventions by ECLAC specialists presenting the different pillars of the projects and initiatives that it is promoting, as well as presentations regarding the importance of the circular economy for the drinking water and sanitation sector, methane recovery, energy efficiency, nutrient extraction and business potential and circular economy implementation in wastewater treatment plants throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
Then, the representatives of participating drinking water and sanitation organizations, coming from El Salvador and Panama, will present the specific context of their country. The workshop seeks to create a space to share advances and exchange best practices for the adoption of principles of efficiency and circularity in treatment plants. The aim is to raise the training needs of the agencies of the invited countries, to later extend these lessons and promote investment in the drinking water and sanitation sector under a circular economy approach for the entire region.
